Egyptian OpenType tool documentation

This tool generates OpenType tables for a specified Egyptian Hieroglyphic TrueType font as a Microsoft Volt project.

The normal workflow to produce an Egyptian Hieroglyphic OpenType font using this tool is as follows:

  1. Prepare a TrueType font with the following characters
    • Basic Latin
    • Egyptian Hieroglyphic [13000–1342F]
    • Egyptian Hieroglyph Format Controls [13430–1343F]
      The font should also include:
    • Hieroglyphic shaping glyphs [details to follow]
    • Variant sizes for Egyptian Hieroglyphics [details to follow]
  2. Update config.py for current project
  3. Run the tool >python eotgen.py
  4. Open the ttf file written by eotgen in VOLT
  5. Import the VOLT project written by eotgen
  6. Compile the font in VOLT (note, VOLT may fail to compile on the first attempt)
  7. Save the font
  8. Install and test the font
