G1 - Ensure a clear layout.

Description: The designer should

  • model from left to right in order to ensure orientation within the process model.
  • avoid overlapping elements.
  • place related elements close to each other to improve understandability.

G2 - Use a consistent labeling style.

Description: The designer should label elements as short and as precise as possible. Labels should be placed close to (e.g., data objects) or inside (e.g., activities) notation elements. The designer should ensure a consistent labeling style among all artifacts. Please find further guidelines on labeling for elements within fragments and OLCs on the respective pages.

G3 - Avoid duplicate elements.

Description: Except for data objects in fragments, the designer should avoid duplicate elements within one artifact.
