06. Kodi: Using the File Manager
This tutorial shows how to copy files from an external storage medium to Kodi, using the Kodi File Manager.
● USB Mouse
● USB Flash Drive
● CoreELEC installed on TV Box
● Optional: a USB Hub (ex: only one USB Port is available)
In Kodi, go to Settings
:
Choose Media
:
Switch to Advanced
(left click):
Select General
:
Enable:
● Show hidden files and directories
● Allow file renaming and deletion
● Download on a computer the required files and copy them to a USB Flash Drive
● Insert the USB Flash drive into any available USB port on the TV Box
● Insert USB Mouse into any available USB port on the TV Box
● Optional: use a USB Hub if only one USB port is available
NOTE: This example uses the files rc_keymaps
and MXQPRO4K
In Settings
choose File Manager
:
Select Add source
:
Click Browse
:
Select Home folder
then click OK
:
Accept default settings and click OK
:
Select storage
:
Select .config
:
Insert USB Flash Drive:
Select USB Flash Drive:
Ensure the destination folder is in the left pane, the files to be copied in the right pane:
Select the file to be copied, bring up the menu and choose Copy
:
Select Yes
:
Repeat until all files are copied to the correct location(s).
AmRemote:
Many are familiar with this method, amremote typically gives a much better user experience with the bundled remotes that come with generic devices.
The file remote.conf
needs to be saved in the following location:
/storage/.config/remote.conf
Meson_IR:
Meson_IR allows for using almost any IR remote controller with a device.
The map file needs to be saved in the following location:
/storage/.config/rc_keymaps/KEYMAP
The configuration file needs to be saved as:
/storage/.config/rc_maps.cfg
and has to include the following content:
meson-ir * KEYMAP
