In short, this is a unified API to match a user-supplied dataset to an authority database. For instance, the two data sources you support so far (GND and Geonames) have reconciliation endpoints, and you can query them as follows:
If there are any aspects of the API that prevent you from switching to it, I would be very interested to know what they are. The community is still actively improving the specifications: https://www.w3.org/community/reconciliation/
