Homework for Wednesday 10/19

Brief summary of this week's homework:

• Watch lecture videos 52–59.
• No readings.
• Work on your research projects. Write a mock project outline in preparation of the project-outline presentation on 10/26. The goal is to make sure that you converge on a good research project. If the mock presentation goes well, then you will be able to move forward with the project. If the mock presentation does not work, then you will have one week to pivot and propose an alternative outline.

Format of the mock project outline

• slide 1: research question—what are you asking in the project & why that matters
• slide 2: positioning—what do we already know & what do we not yet know
• slide 3: preview of the research answer—how you will address the research question
• slides 4–6: overview of what you have so far—data & model
• slide 7: next steps
• slide 8: hurdles—where you need help & questions you have

You should aim for a presentation of 20–25 minutes. This will leave ample time for feedback and discussion, and for trying to eliminate the hurdles.
