Add Wipr as a recommendation to enhance Safari's privacy. #246
-
Hello community, the proposal here is to add the Wipr app as a recommendation for users running Safari, especially iOS users where using a WebKit-based browser is mandatory. Wipr is an ad and tracking blocker that hands it rulesets to Safari and doesn't itself monitor the browsing of the user. Its list-based blocking is superior to Safari's standard blocking which is much more conservative in what it is actually blocking. I also believe Wipr + Safari to be superior to other solutions like Firefox Focus (iOS) or Brave (iOS). More information here: https://giorgiocalderolla.com/wipr.html https://giorgiocalderolla.com/wipr-faq.html The app is long-standing and the developer responds to all relevant questions in the FAQ. I would like this discussion to focus on Wipr's relevance for iOS users, since macOS users may run other recommended browsers like Firefox (Wipr would only be a secondary recommendation there for those insisting on running Safari). Thank you for your attention, I would be glad to hear other opinions on the matter. |

We generally advise against installing browser extensions, however we do list AdGuard for Safari which is both free and open source (whereas Wipr is not). privacyguides.org/browsers/#safari |
