Assistance troubleshooting CVMFS - long timeout on startup #175
-
Hey. I was wondering if you could provide some insight on how best to troubleshoot CVMFS on startup? I'm running neurodesktop locally on my Fedora desktop and it takes around 15-20 mins to attempt to mount CVMFS on container startup (hangs at "Mounting CVMFS"), then again when testing for fastest server, then eventually connects after 30-40 mins. It isn't purely a network latency issue as here is the output of server testing after it does connect:
However, if I SSH into the container and run 'sudo mount -t cvmfs neurodesk.ardc.edu.au /cvmfs/neurodesk.ardc.edu.au' (even while the original connection is hanging or if I kill the process manually and re-mount), it works instantaneously. My workaround is to disable CVMFS on startup and then manually run it the first time I log in, but I would like to get to the bottom of it! Do you have advice on how best I would troubleshoot this issue? I can't find any CVMFS or autofs logs anywhere on the system, and dmesg doesn't say anything, but my knowledge of CVMFS is basically nil so shrug. Here is the docker command I use:

Dear Tim, great to hear you are using Neurodesk :) Your problem is really interesting and I think we might have to look at this in an interactive session. Can you book a meeting with me here: https://calendly.com/s-bollmann/meeting I am suspecting a firewall/deep packet inspection issue on your side and would like to try a few things to narrow down the problem.
