We could place one or multiple Raspberry Pi Zeroes in the mensa to measure the current occupancy based on the number of clients.

As far as I know Prof Passig once had a WiFi Device counter placed in the Mensa which sent its data via LoRaWAN. He once showed graphs of this data at a LoRaWAN Meetup in the brigk (before Covid)
We could ask him for the current status of this device and access to the data.

As an example, the TU Munich has all of their WiFi access point statistics online: http://wlan.lrz.de/apstat/filter/unterbezirk/bb/

The device by Prof Passig seems to be not existent anymore therefore we should consider asking Mensa personal if it would be fine for them that we set up a new device

I asked the canteen management of Mensa and they would be fine if we set up our own WiFi Devices. The only thing is to figure out how to get Power to such devices.

Maybe we could create this in a collaboration with brigk
