Error: Cannot find dfx configuration file in the current working directory. Did you forget to create one?

I know this is very basic question but I tried to open a new folder for day_2 and when trying to run

dfx start

I get this error :

Error: Cannot find dfx configuration file in the current working directory. Did you forget to create one?

Previously I created a new directory called day_2 and run the command dfx new day_2
