What is the correct way to upgrade from version 0.18.2.2?

I am using monero-gui on windows 10. I am currently using version 0.18.2.2.2, Windows 64-bit (zip). On startup it requires an update. After downloading the update, the new version does not see the saved data from the old version. How do I transfer data between versions?

Can you explain what you mean with "does not see the saved data"? Do you have portable mode enabled? You can check if Settings -> Info.
