Cant change footer, at all

Environment

• Minimal Mistakes version: Using the mm-github-pages-starter: https://github.com/mmistakes/mm-github-pages-starter
• Ruby gem or remote theme version: Don't have a local repo
• Jekyll version: Don't have a local repo
• Git repository URL:
• GitHub Pages hosted (if yes provide URL to site):
• Operating system: Windows

Expected behavior

I'm trying to change the footer, specifically adding footer links with icons (github, twitter etc) But nothing works.

I've tried:

• Adding links (label, icon, url) using the footer setting in _config.yml
• Adding _includes folder with latest footer.html from made mistakes repo
• Changing the latest footer.html from made mistakes repo - this literally did nothing, in the docs it says it should replace the theme's own footer.html?
• Adding link details literally everywhere: I tried adding a twitter handle to the author setting, to the social setting in config.yml. No avail

Steps to reproduce the behavior

Doing any of the above, i expected to get what i wanted from the very easy looking "footer" setting but it doesnt work.

Turns out it was ublock origin blocking social elements facepalm
