I have been using pkgsrc for a while on NetBSD and macOS, but the Kakoune version there was super old (v2020.01.16). A few days ago, I have updated Kakoune in pkgsrc to v2024.05.18. That makes the latest Kakoune easily installable on several platforms (NetBSD, SmartOS, macOS, …). See here some of the built binaries. That also brings (soon or later) the latest Kakoune to public-access Unix shells such as sdf.org.
Can we have something like the following added to the README.md?
