Setup a Google Analytics accounts and analytics tracking in the page header.

I am in favour of having some access statistics, less happy about doing that through an external entity.
Would it be that bad to have an httpd log parser do the job, when needed?

This would be a cumbersome way of doing it. I have no access to the server logs and would not want to rely on someone else doing this and generating the usage data.

Google Analytics provides a worldwide standard in this area, though I understand if there are possible privacy concerns. We can discuss if necessary.

Generating a (monthly?) usage report would provide useful information, if Google Analytics is not the preferred way of gathering this information.

Someone would need to set all that up on the server though...

Yes, it's a piece of extra work.
The balance is between managing a google account for analytics (let's not touch what else this involves) and passing it over when needed, and creating a statistics summary engine/script on a server.

Up for discussion.

I'm going to change this to a more generic title which is solution-agnostic. I would definitely like some visibility into user visits once the new site goes live though, whether that be through a preexisting platform or custom tools/scripts.
