Add rotation schedule for Alchemy #259
Comments
See [Revitalizing Standard](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/revitalizing-standard) and [Updates to Standard and Alchemy on MTG Arena](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/mtg-arena/updates-to-standard-and-alchemy-on-mtg-arena). Part of glacials#259
It seems like this is done for standard, though you can reopen if you want to shift this issue towards 3 (supporting Alchemy with the old Standard schedule). |
I don't play Arena so I don't have much familiarity with Alchemy. I would welcome feedback from any Alchemy players about if you have or have had similar problems with understanding Alchemy as those that originally brought you to What's in Standard?. |
I don't play Alchemy as regularly, but I might know enough to help. Basically Alchemy used to have the same rotation schedule as Standard, but now Alchemy is on a 2 year schedule, the same as Standard before these announcements. I was hoping we could include information for Alchemy on the same page, as the new layout has more horizontal space, and Alchemy's card list is going to be a year shorter than Standard's anyway. I'm curious how you feel would be best to display them. I was thinking of either a second column with a duplicated list of sets in Alchemy, or splitting the existing list such that there are two sets of timeline labels for Standard and Alchemy. Alchemy also has a different ban list, though we could put it below the Standard ban list if there isn't enough space on the side. Sidenote: Amazonian also has a video about the schedule changes featuring What's in Standard, if you'd like to use it for reference or marketing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbIzNSKNwS4 |
WotC recently wrote Renewal for MTG Arena's 2023 Standard Rotation, which goes into detail about how and when the changes will arrive in Arena. There's even a helpful graphic comparing the sets in standard and alchemy: Hopefully that helps, otherwise feel free to ask me questions. |
According to Revitalizing Standard, the following changes are being made:
The most important change to make is reflecting that the oldest sets currently in standard will be legal for another year.Additionally, it may be helpful to have a separate section with the schedule for Alchemy (which should look identical to the Standard schedule currently).
