After setting up the federation successfully we should educate guardians about the importance of the backup file and make them download it. Since fedimint secrets in it are encrypted it is pretty safe to just put it somewhere on your computer/cloud account/email it to yourself.

Hi @elsirion, I’m currently working on implementing the backup file download prompt for this issue. If anyone else has started this or if there’s anything specific I should consider, please let me know. I’ll ensure to keep you updated on my progress.

Awesome, thx for tackling this! The idea is to nudge/block progress on downloading the backup file at least once. Without the recovery file a guardian cannot recover in case of total system failure. We should also move the backup file download button to a less scary place imo since the backup file is unusable without the password anyway (so not really secret as long as the pw is strong).

Hi @elsirion, I’ve worked on the implementation based on your feedback and created a PR for it. I’d appreciate it if you could take a look and share your thoughts!
Thanks in advance for your time and guidance!
