One of my goals with the Sony A7 #49 is to have a better lens & sensor for video.
But there are few issues with using the camera in practice:
It's difficult to use it to film oneself because it has no articulating screen and the controls are all in an awkward position. (the video record button is tiny and hidden on the right side of the body...)
I want to be able to command/control the camera from my computer and view the image as it's recording so that I can simplify the process of making tutorial videos and recording presentations.

The Sony recommended way is to use the "Remote" program:

Nondescript installer package (does not inspire much confidence)

"only" 33.9 mb seems reasonable ...

If you thought you were getting one app that does Remote View and Edit, think again.

After installation, your applications folder now has an "Imaging Edge" directory with three apps:

The Remote works quite well.

And while you are using the "Remote" app this annoying popup keeps appearing:

The photos taken are automatically downloaded to a specified folder on the computer (_in my case the default ~/Pictures

The "Viewer" app automatically opens when the Remote app is in-use and you click the shutter:

Yes, that's a "Bob The Builder" Construction Helmet in the background. 👷😉@home 🏡❤️

Issues:

  1. The "view finder" does not appear on the Mac screen.
The "Remote" app does not stream the picture to the computer,
it only allows you to control the camera.

  2. Videos are not saved to the computer, they are only saved to the SD card. 😕
(so in order to access the videos, we either need to stop, remove the SD and insert it into the computer, or ... we are forced to download another app!)

341 Mb just to download photos from the Sony camera...?! 😞

Click "Allow" ...

"Not Optimised" ... I just downloaded it and have the latest Mac OS!! 🤦‍♂️

Success ... 🤔

But Restart is required ... 🙄

I really hate it when Apps force me to re-start.
