System information

  • Windows OS version: Windows 11 Pro 24H2
  • ImageGlass version: 9.2.0.1208
  • ImageGlass release: Classic

Describe the feature

I'd like to see a better, more straightforward way to update the classic version of ImageGlass. I know the "auto-update" is a paid feature, but the current way of updating ImageGlass is nothing else but dumb.

Classic version already has ability to check for updates. It would be great if we could get a way to download the installation package straight from the app.
This is how Revo Uninstaller, VLC and some other software do. Lenovo Legion Toolkit (open source software for Legion laptops) goes a way further and does everything by itself (download -> run -> install -> restart).

We can discuss how it could be implemented, but honestly, I just want to see a normal solution for updating.

Additional context

Also, I don't know why, but every time I manually update the ImageGlass, it keeps bringing back the start menu entry which I previously removed. More specifically, I keep getting "Uninstall ImageGlass" shortcut in my start menu. It's annoying enough I have to download package manually, run it, install it, but then I have to manually delete the shortcut too.

You can use UniGetUI to keep imageglass updated via winget.

@LeviSnoot I can, but is it really worth installing additional software just so one app would be updated? In my personal opinion, it isn't. :)

Then just use winget itself but you'd have to check for updates manually. I doubt you're gonna see software updates implemented directly in ImageGlass when that is one of the main drivers for supporting the project financially.

@LeviSnoot I really don't get the policy of paying for simpler way of updating the app. I'm not looking for automatic updates, I'm just looking for simple way to get the installer instead opening the website and making a thousand clicks to get the installer file.

It's easier to disable checking for updates and update every major version than to update every single time an update comes.
