Documenting how to perform programmatic validation

Hello! The README states that the validator supports:

programmatic validation (so it can easily be used by Python code).

but myself and a couple of colleagues have struggled to figure out how to do this.

Would it be possible to add some examples to the documentation?

+1. This came up a few times at BioHackathon last week, as people are excited about the validator and keen to incorporate it into their work! Documentation would really help.
