I may remember this being the case in original Fallout 2, however, it is certainly happening with Fallout 2 CE.

I tested in Fallout 2 and in Fallout Sonora, and in both games floating lines above NPCs heads are not cleared when moving between map screens.

Often this is not noticeable, as there are not so many NPCs near an exit grid. However in certain locations it is very noticeable. An example would be the Shark Club in New Reno. Enter the casino, wait for lines to appear over NPCs heads, then go upstairs. The lines will appear upstairs too.

Is this a bug? Does not seem like ideal behavior.

Can you test in vanilla FO2 and with sfall 4.4 and compare the behavior?

I would, however, I can't run Fallout 2 on my macOS without Fallout 2 CE.

Tried many things, but never really worked.

Isn't there wine for MacOS or something? Or VM.

Yes, but it doesn't work. Or work well. VM doesn't work either. I am on M1 chip.

It's kind of moot though. The behavior is buggy. Original behavior or not.

It's just that I never noticed this in the years of playing vanilla or sfall. So I was curious if it's something CE introduced or some missing vanilla bug fix from sfall (there are MANY).

Can you test it in the location I suggested with original or sfall versions?

This was fixed in Sfall a couple years ago. So yes, in vanilla the floating text remains visible if you switch map elevations.
