Prune leading and trailing whitespace before inserts into PlaceReference or PersonReference

Many problems are caused by the leading and trailing whitespace in the mark-up. One example is the person word clouds, in which "Stephen F. Austin" shows up prominently, but " Stephen F. Austin" is nearly as prominent.

Why not just trim this whitespace before we put it in the database in the first place?
