Is there an existing feature request for this?

I have searched the existing issues before opening this feature request.

Describe the feature you would like to see.

A background process that checks whether the panel is up-to-date.

Describe the solution you'd like.

Add an indicator or section in the admin area related to updates. This API may be used to see the latest release.
